R.J.'s Goals
-
- Focus awareness on the decline of citizen participation in the democratic process in Edmonton and by extension in some parts of Alberta and Canada.
- Present some strategies that can be incorporated into larger plans with a view to increasing citizen participation in civic governance.
- Present strategies that have gotten little political, administrative, academic, or media attention in the hope of demonstrating that broadening input can encourage debate and thereby assist in producing the reflective mindset that is needed to support a “progressive” city.
- Create a "model website" where other potential candidates can see a working framework for presenting detailed proposals in a manner that the electorate can easily view and interact with during future campaigns for political office.
- Provide interested potential candidates with access to a turn-key template based on the model website. Interested future candidates, even those with modest budgets and little technical knowledge, should be able to get up and running quickly.
- Enable people in Edmonton to make connections with other like minded individuals in the hope of establishing a viable non-profit society dedicated to increasing the frequency of citizen participation in the city’s democratic processes.
- Provide sample pages titled; “Favourite” and “Incredible”, within the model website so that candidates can present the public with humanizing background information rather than limiting their presentations to splashy signage intended to garner name recognition or promote slogans.
